Over 50 Years of Excellence

The University of North Texas Foundation, Inc. was chartered in July 1972 by the State of Texas as a public charity under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. On February 6, 1981, the Foundation became an independent, institutionally related organization governed by its own Board of Directors, officers, and staff.

As a trusted steward of private resources, the UNT Foundation is dedicated to managing and administering gifts on behalf of the University of North Texas. The Foundation ensures that all contributions are used in strict accordance with donor intent and remain separate from public funds, providing lasting impact and support for the university’s mission of excellence in education, research, and public service.

As an independent, institutionally related foundation, it is uniquely positioned to:

  • Facilitate gift transactions, support the acquisition and development of real property, and pursue investment opportunities that might prove difficult or impractical for the state institution is serves.

  • Steward donor gifts over the long-term in accordance with their intent.

  • Serve as a private partner for raising and managing funds, yet operate independently of the University of North Texas, unencumbered by certain state regulations.

  • Allocate unrestricted funds to urgent needs that the University is unable to support with state-appropriated funds.

  • Provide confidentiality for donors and other sensitive information due to the UNT Foundation being a private 501(c)(3) organization and is not subject to Public Freedom of Information Act requests.

  • Offer flexibility in options for short-term investment of money needed for operating purposes, as well as long-term investment opportunities for endowments.

  • Attract committed volunteers to serve on the UNT Foundation Board who develop a sense of ownership and pride in the University, expanding its support in the community.

  • Partner with the University of North Texas’ Division of Advancement, developing gift agreements that govern accounts established by donors’ gifts.
